The Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center is the home of the campus recreation and health and wellness programs. It features a gymnasium with 500 bleacher seats and a full-size NCAA basketball court that can be configured in various ways to accommodate two cross-courts for basketball as well as volleyball and badminton courts.
The recreation center also provides state-of-the-art cardio and fitness equipment, and a group exercise room with equipment. The recreation and athletics program sponsors a number of club sports and activities such as hikes and whitewater rafting excursions.
The H. Rajender Reddy Student Health Center occupies the second floor and serves the health and wellness needs of the campus community, working with other campus departments and faculty to offer a range of wellness activities, from student peer health counseling and nutrition programs to massage therapy.

Building Highlights
- This building has exceeded California’s Title-24 energy consumption standards by 44% and beats the LEED baseline performance standards by 49%, achieving all 10 possible LEED points under credit EA 1: Optimize Energy Performance.
- This building achieves a water savings of 44% over a comparable building through the use of automated low-flow faucets, low-flow showerheads, low-flow toilets and waterless urinals, and drought-tolerant native landscaping.
- Overall the building materials had a combined value of 15% recycled content, earning 2 LEED points.
- 55% of selected materials were manufactured regionally, earning one standard point and qualifying for a second point for Exemplary Performance.
- Adhesives, sealants, paints and carpets used in the project have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and meet a number of low-VOC standards such as Green Seal, CRI Green Label, and SCAQMD Rule 1168.
